Pillows not comfortable
Great location, comfortable rooms, excellent Onsen
Pillows not comfortable. Children in Onsen unsupervised and wearing swimming costumes one night during our stay.
Staff friendly and helpful. Great location and well appointed rooms
Lack of there being a restaurant with an aà la Carte menu
Convenient ski in ski out property with hearty spread for breakfast. We enjoyed the teppanyaki dinner which was pricey but good quality. Onsite onsen was convenient, clean and comfortable to use
Rooms, bathrooms and ski locker room could do with an update or better maintenance. The “Single room” bathroom is very tiny and not comfortable to use. Could not find any photos of the bathroom online otherwise we would not have booked this category of room if we had known the size of the bathroom. Luckily they were able to change to a larger room (with a top up of the difference in room price). “Deluxe room” bathroom size is ok but shower water ran hot/cold which was very uncomfortable to use, had to shower at the onsen instead of in our room’s attached bathroom.
Breakfast at the hotel. It was outstanding
Dinner was really good but it was expensive and not worth the value.
Very good foodLimited food choiceBrilliant location Need more staffVery expensive
Excellent access to the lifts, great rooms, staff was helpful regarding vegan meals for my wife
The most unfriendly, jaded bartender in all of Japan wrecked any chance of atmosphere in the lounge area, as did the fireplace that was cold and empty 90% of the time. Very disappointing. Didn’t go to Shiga to sit in a bar, but when we did go there it was really surprising to see how rude this guy was, not only to myself and my wife, but many of the guests that were unlucky enough to be there when he was working. Wouldn’t expect that in Japan.
It’s a ski in ski out hotel with professional and helpful staffs. The location is remote hence is quiet. Service provided was great. There’s also live piano every evening.
Location to the ski fields was excellent.
Dated facilities, untrained staff, and expensive food, with no other options available. We felt like we were a commodity rather than a customer.
Located away from busier areas of the Shiga Kogen ski zone with everything you need….if you pay half board as well…right there. The variety of foods/restaurants is great even though a little more expensive. The staff were wonderful, and nothing was a problem for them. And having an I. House Onsen was sensational….first thing in the morning and later after snowboarding/skiing!!
Limited options to grab a few things/treats/provisions…but more than adequate.
ski out the door, cool mid century vibe - with 70's room. beautiful scenery. great breakfast and the 1/2board not too shabby as well.
ran out of beer in the vending machine, then did not fill it up for three days. Also, the barman could try and be a little less grumpy, the days that he had off and other people managed the bar were much more relaxing.
Ski in/out was excellent. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the rooms were comfortable.
You’re a bit of a captive audience so you really need to eat at the hotel. The breakfast was great but can be a bit expensive eating dinner there every night.
Old but very Well maintained hotel. Spacious rooms and front desk staff were very accommodating. Great location for skiing but if you’re not skiing there isn’t anything else to do.
Dinner bookings hard to get, meals were not very good and very over priced. Restaurant staff didn’t seem to know what they were doing and desperately need training. Bar staff at lounge were very slow and need training.
Very friendly helpful staff always willing to help and do whatever to make your stay exceptional. Great atmosphere throughout. French restaurant is superb and Michel maintains a very high standard which makes it worth staying just a little further and at the end of the line for skiing rather than at Yakebitaiyama or Ichinose.
Nothing really, although the beds get a little hard.
Perfect location, great staff, great food.
The standard room was quite basic but the location of the hotel was the reason we were there
The front desk staff were helpful and spoke some English. The standard room size was good for Japan. The French and Japanese dinners were good but we had half board so not sure of the price as I think they may be a bit expensive for what they are. The rental ski shop and ski lockers are part of the hotel so very convenient. The location is very good. The entire hotel is interconnected and very warm so jeans and t shirt fine at night time in winter. Genuine ski in ski out very good location.
The wait staff spoke very little (no English) and some very poor service. Some good so just hit and miss. The lounge bar had a very rude staff member who walked around with a message on his phone saying if you want to sit here you have to order a drink. That is simply not acceptable. It’s not a cheap hotel and the bar lounge is one of only 2 common areas to sit at night with kids. I was disgusted by this and complained to management. Unacceptable. The breakfast was not up to standard for a hotel of this price bracket and they regularly ran out of items. The hot baths are ok but not great. It’s not an onsen and there is no outdoor bath. The teppanyaki was good food but the chef didn’t do any show so it was a waste of money really. The ceiling height in the bathroom is low. I’m 6”4 and my head was grazing the ceiling.
Our three Japanese dinners were consistently outstanding. French was very good on two nights and ok on a third. Back to breakfast, bread and pasterries were good. Property was very comfortable. Good size room, shower over bath, good water pressure, the onsen is large ans while the water not hot enough for me, my wife thought it was perfect.Yoshi's service as the front desk was excellent. Complementary access to the excellent sauna and 20 metre indoor pool at asjacent hotel was an unexpected bonus. The location is great for accesss to the slopes. I would highly recommend the half board option as the included dinners are very good.
The booking of dinner choices needs improvement. Hotel asked for preferences prior to arrrival but despite multiple emails there was no acknowledgement. Upon arrival dinner options had not been arranged and the whole process seemed disorganised and took time and multiple interactions during the stay to make the arrangements. On three of seven nights we had to wait for a call to come to the resturant as they were overbooked. While the service from Yoshi at the front desk and Micheal in the French resturant was very good, service from other staff was variable. That said, most seem to be trying their best. An offer to assist with luggage on departure would have been appreaciated. This is a great place to come skiing but there is zero to do in the evenings and prebooking of dinners is essential. The quality of the wine on the menu but was expensive. FYI Corkage for BYO was 4400Yen/bottle whereas a good red wine was 8400Yen. Breakfast was passable. Eggs can be cooked to order but there is no signage that indicates this. The meal in small Teppan resturant was very average. The chef overcooked the lobster to the point it was just a mash and there was limited engagement with the six dinners. Definitely not of the same high standard as the the other Japanese food and certainly not worth paying the extra supplement to attend. The public areas of the property look a bit tatty and are sorely in need of renewal. However, everything worked and it was comfortable.
Next to ski school and quiet
Got to reserve restaurant for dinner in advance and limited food choices
Staff were great, location for the ski school and the lifts was amazing and even though very dated, the hotel was quite cool with its unique design. There’s a kids room that wasn’t too bad and the onsen was nice. One thing to keep in mind is there are zero, like zero shops around and you are very isolated. I would recommend bringing snack food with you as the hotel food is very expensive. Loved the alpine bar in the evenings as we could get a toasty or a pizza and a drink whilst the snow fell around us.
The food options are very very expensive. We had dinner in the Japanese restaurant which was a set menu. Our 5yo son had a kids plate which was nice, but our 7yo was too old for this and had to have the set menu which was very authentic Japanese. Nothing wrong with that but she ate literally nothing (and she’s not a fussy eater) and it was $66 for her. The whole dinner cost us over $300AUD. The Raclette was better for us but was also about $200AUD (we only ordered for two adults and shared it between the four of us to do it as cheaply as possible!). The rest of the time we just ate from the alpine bar toasties and pizzas and it wasn’t too good for the bowels…??? we never eat that much bread! But otherwise everything was great
